Normative model of dentistry:
Profession decides who enters the profession, dentists supervise each other, act in best interest of pts, dental care is not a commodity, not competitive relation bw dr and pt, commitment to society, special obligations because they are professionals

few ind write the code, only represent members, cover limited areas, written by member driven organization
Benefits to the ADA code of conduct:
good to set forth expectations and obligation, helps to ID dentists not behaving ethically
