21. Capacitance Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is a capacitor and what does it consist of?
An electrical component in which charge is separated
Consists of 2 metallic plates separated from each other by an insulator (dielectric)
When is a capacitor fully charged?
When p.d. = emf and current falls to zero
Define Capacitance
The charge stored per unit potential difference
What is the equation for Capacitance?
C = Q/V
C = Capacitance / F
Q = Charge / C
V = Potential difference / V
How do you calculate capacitance in parallel?
C = C1 + C2 + …
How do you calculate capacitace in series?
1/C = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + …
What is charge and pd like when capacitors are in parallel?
Q = Q1 + Q2 + …
Pd is the same
What is charge and pd like in capacitors in series?
Q is the same
V = V1 + V2 + …
