2.1 - plant&animal cells, 2.3 - Importance of cell division, 2.5 - cell cycle Flashcards
(17 cards)
2.1- Part of plant cells (Go on Google to see where) 8
Golgi body, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, nucleus.
2.1 - Parts of animal cell (Go on Google to see) 7
smooth endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondrion, cell membrane, cytoplasm, lysosome, golgi apparatus, nucleus
2.1- Plant or animal cell? explain. - Cytoplasm
in both. all the organelles inside are suspended in it.
2.1- Plant or animal cell? explain. - cell membrane
In both. Supports the cells and allows some substances to enter while keeping others out
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - Nucleus
Both. has genetic information that controls a cell activities
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - mitochondria
Both. Makes energy available to the cell
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - Endoplasmic Reticulum
Both. Fluid filled tubes transport material (protein) through the cell
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - Golgi bodies (Apparatus).
Both. Collect and process materials to be removed from the cell and make secret mucus
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - Vacuoles
Both. contains some substances removing unwanted substances from the cell and maintaining internal fluid pressure with the cell
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - Cell wall
Plant. Provides support for the cell and protection from physical injury
2.1 - Plant or animal cell? explain. - Chloroplasts
plant. Contains chlorophyll and gives leaves green colour. It absorbs light energy used for photosynthesis.
2.3 - What are the 3 different reasons cell division takes place? (Explain each)
1) Reproduction: Asexual = 1 parent, offspring have same DNA as parent. Sexual = 2 parents, offspring shares characteristics of both parents
2) Growth: # of cells increase as cells grow cuz chemicals used during cell activity enter the cell through the process of diffusion.
3) Repair: cells die then are replaced by new ones, for survival living things need to repair themselves regularly through the cell cycle
2.3 - What are the processes that are responsible for chemicals moving into, throughout and out of cells?
Osmosis and diffusion
2.1 - What’s cell theory?
All living things are made up of 1 or more preexisting cell, that are the basic unit of life.
2.5 - What are the 3 stages of the cell cycle (Explain)
1) Interphase: cells perform normal functions and its genetic material in copied
2) Mitosis: DNA is divided
3) Cytokinesis: Cytoplasm divides to form 2 identical cells.
2.5 - 4 phases of Mitosis (Explain)
1) Prophase: Chromosomes become visible and the nuclear membrane begins to dissolve
2) Metaphase: Chromosomes begin to line up in the middle of the cell
3) Anaphase: Centromere splits & sister chromatids separate into daughter chromosomes & move toward opposite end of cell.
4) Telophase: Chromatids unwind and a nuclear membrane reforms around the chromosomes at the end of the cell
2.5 - Why is it necessary for cells to copy their DNA ?
To ensure that each daughter cell receives equal amount of DNA
