Pressurization and Air stuff Flashcards

Q

Air for the packs is bled from where?

A

Normally from the low compressor stage LP. However, at low engine speed when pressure from LP stage is insufficient, the air is automatically switched to the high compressor stage HP.

Q

What is the function of the pack valve?

A

Pack shut off

Pressure control; normal or high are available. High flow doubles the pack entrance pressure.

Q

What happens to the air sucked in by the ground cooling fan?

A

It passes over the primary and secondary heat exchangers and is exhausted overboard

Q

What may cause a pack fault?

A

Valve position disagreement

Overheat (temp >204C) the pack will close automatically

Q

What is the function of the temp control valve?

A

It controls the amt of hot air entering the mixing chamber, while the pack adds cold air

8
Q

What controls the temperature?

A

The electronic temperature controller via temperature control valve

Note: in manual it is controlled directly by the demand selector position

Q

How do outflow valves operate in AUTO mode?

A

The digital controller generates a signal during all phases of flight.

13
Q

What does the digital controller use to generate it’s signal to the outflow valves?

A
  • landing elevation (via landing elevation selector)
  • take off elevation (controller memorizes it)
  • cabin pressure
  • aircraft static pressure (via captains air data computer or ADC2 is 1 is broken) compared to 29.92

15
Q

In flight, if the exhaust mode pb is released, what will happen?

A

The OVBD valve will open slightly
The under floor valve will close
The fan will shut off

16
Q

What is the cabin pressure at FL250 (max theoretical cabin alt) ?

A

6740ft

17
Q

What are the max cabin rates in manual mode?

A

-2,500fpm and +1500fpm

18
Q

What are the max cabin rates in AUTO mode?

A

> 20,000ft <550fpm
20,000 not more than 620fpm

(Normal =400fpm, fast 500fpm)

19
Q

If operating in manual press mode, remember to ensure that:

A

You de pressurize the cabin before landing or at least before reaching the gate or you may kill a gate agent

20
Q

In flight with the exhaust PB in OVBD what happens to the extract fan, OVBD valve and under floor valve?

A

Fan stops
Under floor valve closes
OVBD valve partially open

This allows for differential pressure to vent the avionics area instead of the extract fan

21
Q

Which pack supplies the cockpit?

A

The left pack

22
Q

Which pack supplies the cabin?

A

Right pack

23
Q

You can only use the DUMP function in what mode?

A

Auto mode

24
Q

To switch from auto to manual, you:

A

Knob to manual

Press CAB PRESS mode sel PB

25
Q

How do you switch from manual to auto?

A

Disengage PB

Turn the knob to NORM position

26
Q

When do the fans change (the ones that suck air through the labs and over the smoke detectors)

A

At each aircraft regeneration

27
Q

Min amount of O2 required

A

1400psi but check correction table

28
Q

What are the three settings on the oxygen masks?

A
  1. Emergency: continuous flow 15 mins
  2. 100% : <120mins?
  3. Diluted: 120 mins
29
Q

What happens if you are using O2 and you get to 50psi?

A

LO PR and level 2 alert

30
Q

What does the electronic temperature controller use to determine the correct pack discharge temperature?

A
  1. Pack outlet temperature
  2. Demand selector position
  3. Compartment temperature
  4. Skin temperature
31
Q

What does the digital temp controller use to set outflow valve position?

A
  • Landing elevation from landing elevation selector
  • Takeoff elevation which had been memorized
  • Cabin pressure
  • Aircraft static pressure generated by ADC 1 with CAPT baro setting (or ADC 2 with a 29.92 reference)
32
Q

Can you use DUMP function in manual mode?

A

No

33
Q

Is DITCH mode available in manual mode?

A

Yes. Both auto and manual
