2.1.6 stages of mitosis Flashcards
(7 cards)
explain what happens during prophase
chromatin fibres coil + condense = chromosomes
nucleus disappears
nuclear membrane begins to break down
centrioles move to opp ends of cell
explain what happens during metaphase
chromosomes moved by spindle fibres to the equator of the cell
known as metaphase plate
explain what happens during anaphase
the chrome red divide
splits the 2 chromatids from each other
pulled to poles of cells when spindle fibres shorten
(chromatids form V shape as they move)
explain what happens during telophase
chromatids reach the poles = called chromosomes
nuclear envelope begins to reform around them
chromosomes start to uncoil
nucleus forms
what is the process of cytokinesis
cytoplasm divides to separate the cells
begins during telophase
what happens in animal cells during cytokinesis
a cleavage furrow forms in middle of cell
cell membrane pulled inwards by cytoskeleton
gets close enough to fuse in middle
what happens in plant cells during cytokinesis
cannot form cleavage furrow due to cell wall
vesicles from golgi app assemble at equator
vesicles fuse together + fuse w/ cell mem.
new sections of cell wall form on new cell mem
