Lymphadenopathy
Lymph nodes which are abnormal in size, number or consistency. Causes are infection, autoimmune disease, malignancy, bites or unknown aetiology
What is MALT?
Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue. It’s the diffusion system of small concentrations of lymphoid tissue found on various sites of the body. Populated by T cells and B cells, plasma cells and macrophages. To deal with antigens.
What is splenomegaly?
Enlarged spleen. One of the four cardinal signs of hypersplenism. (Hyper function of the spleen due to haemolytic anaemia, portal hypertension. Could be due to infection or an autoimmune disorder. Or from a tumour (could be leukaemia)
What is Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Cancer of the lymphatic system which mostly affects young people. Most common sign is a painless swelling in a lymph node usually in the neck, armpit or groin. B cells are affected
