A

Ribs 1-3: subclavian artery, brachial plexus

Ribs 3-7: haemo-/pneumothorax, pulmonary contusion

Ribs 8-12: diaphragm, intra-abdominal trauma (liver & spleen)

Diagnosis

A

Palpation reveals:

  • Tenderness
  • Surgical emphysema

NB –> Clinical dx NOT radiological

Management

A

1-2: discharge home if able to cough under adequate analgesia

> 3: admission, cough to prevent atelectasis and pneumonia
