Sports confidence definition
The self belief an individual has in their ability to be successful in sport.
Self-efficacy definition
The confidence we have in specific situations
Self esteem definition
The feeling of self worth that determines how valuable and competent we feel
Impact of sports confidence on performance
- High sports confidence leads to high motivation and thus performance
- Low sports confidence leads to low motivation and thus performance
Impact of sports confidence on participation
- Increased SC leads to increased participation due to approach behaviour in competitive situations
- Decreased SC leads to decreased participation due to avoidance behaviour in competitive situations
Impact of sports confidence on self esteem
- High SC leads to high self esteem due to internal attributions for success leading to mastery orientation
- Low SC leads to low self esteem due to internal attributions for success leading to learned helplessness

- e.g. confident in range of sports

- Refers to degree of competitiveness
- e.g. volunteer to take a penalty

- Refers to situation specific self-belief in sport
- e.g. confident when taking a penalty

- How well a skill is performed
- e.g. penalty is taken well
