Q

How to explain to a Px about SCL cleani g using multipurpose solution

A
  1. hygene - wash hands
  2. cleaning - drop 1-3 drops of multipurpose solution onto each side of the lens and rub for rough;y 20 seconds each side
  3. rinsing - rinse lenses with solution after rubbing. avoid using any water
4.storage - put new solution into case and place lenses into the case to disinfect the lenses over night. always make sure that the lens is fully submerged to prevent contamination and dryness.

Q

advantages and whent to use hydrogen Peroxide solution

A

advatages;-
- effective disinfection - perfect for sterilizing lenses and killing bacteria, virus, fungi and is ideal for high risk patients
- no preservatives - suitable for px with allergic reactions and dry eye

When to use:-
- sensitive eyes
- High risk of infection

Q

How to explain contact lens peripheral ulcer to a px

A

This is a small sore on the edge of your cornea caused by a bacterial infection. this can occue when you are not cleaning your lenses properly and sometimes when they are wore too long without sufficent O2, can cause discomfort if left untreated and can lead to serious complications

Management plan:-
- stop wearing your lesnes immediately to allow the eyes to heal
- might have to prescribe antibiotic eye drops in order to help fight the infection
- well monitor your eyes closely with follow up appointments to ensure proper healing .

Q

Effects of an RPG on tear film

A
  1. Tear film disruption - RPG lenses can disrupt the natural tear film, leading to increased evaporation. of the tears, which may not cause dryness and discomfort, particularly if the lens does not fit well
  2. reduced tear exchange - may restrict the normal tear exchange beneath the lens, potentially leading to some dry eye symptoms if the ter film beneath the lens is insufficient

Q

features of staining seen on slit lamp and how to record

A
  1. location of staining - weatherit is central ot peripheral and area of said cornea affected

Q

process of injection moulding and advantages and disadvantages

A

process:
- involves a liquid polymer being injected into a mould under pressure. the polymer is then heated and allowed to cool and solidify into the shape of the contact lens, aftrer cooling the lens is re,oved form the mould.

Advantages: -
- percision and consistincy
- cost effective
- complex lens design

disadvantages:-
- lens material flexability
- initial setup control
- quality control

Q

Feautres of a flat/loose fitting contact lens

A
  1. lens fit - sits to loose, to much movement upon blink and poor stability
  2. central lens loation- lens may be centrally displaced because it is not conforming well to the corneal curvature
  3. excessive movement - lens may move more than optimal 0.25-0/5 mm. upon blinking, ehich can cause discomfort and disrupt the tear exchange beneath the lens
  4. lens awareness - Px mahy exp increased lens awareness due to the movement of the lens on thre eye

16
Q

Complacations of a loose/flat fitting lens

A
  1. discomfort anf irritation - excessive movement of the lens can cause friction to the cornea and lead to discomfort and potential irritation
  2. lens decentraction
  3. dryness and reduced oxygen
  4. increased risk of infection
17

Multifocal options

A

Monovision

multifocals

bifocal cls
