Q
  1. What are the three types of copper water tube that are installed with sweat solder fittings? Compare the wall thickness of the three types; also compare these wall thickness with standard iron pipe in the smaller sizes as for water piping in household plumbing?
A

The three type designations are: K, L, and M. In the smaller sizes used in household plumbing, the wall thickness of type M (the thinnest) is approximately 70 percent of that of type L, which , in turn , is about 70 percent of that of type K .The wall thickness of “standard” iron pipe is about twice that of type K, 2-1/2 to 3 times that of type L, and nearly 4 times that of type M.
