Know what plasma clearance is and how it is calculated. How can filtration fraction be calculated from inulin and PAH clearance? What is the clinical importance of inulin and PAH?
Understand the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System and how it works to control blood pressure. Understand the roles of Renin, angiotensin I, angiotensin II, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), and aldosterone. Know where ACE is primarily located. Know the 4 primary mechanisms by which angiotensin II affects blood pressure. Know where aldosterone is produced and what it does at the kidney.
Drugs need to have correct clearance rates (pass through body)
too fast has no effect
too slow is toxis
rate of Urine formation x concentration divided by plasma concentration
PAH clerance is the same as renal plasma flow RPF
650ml/min
GFR is the same as inulin clearance
125ml/min
