Pattern Toi-Gye is the pen-name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang of the 16th century, who was an authority of neu-confusionism. This was a school of thought that rose in popularity after the fall of taoism and buddism that centres upon a societies' ability to live in harmony. There are 37 moves in the pattern, which signifies his birthplace on the 37th lattitude.

Pattern Hwa-Rang: -Meaning -No# of Movements
Is named for the Hwa-Rang youth group from the Silla Dynasty around 600AD. The group went on to become the driving force of the unification of the three kingdoms of korea. There are 29 movements, representing the 29th infantry division, where TaeKwonDo began to develop into maturity.
