3 Trigeminal System Flashcards

1
Q

If there is a lesion in the medulla on the right between the spinal cord and the level of the principal trigeminal nucleus
the fine touch to the left side of the face will be _____________. What if the lesion is at the level of the midbrain?

Q

Describe the anterior trigeminothalamic tract.

A

It projects to the contralateral cortex. It contains second order neurons and crosses the midline. Neurons communicate with 3rd order neurons in contralateral thalamus

Q

What nucleus of the thalamus does the anterior trigeminothalamic tract project to?

A

Principal sensory nucleus! Located n the pons (carries fine touch (two point) sensation, position, vibration.

Descending into spinal tract of trigeminal.. terminate in spinal trigeminal nucleus (PAIN AND TEMP)
