I: Spinous process of upper four thoracic and lower two cervical vertebrae.

Segmental branches of posterior rami of spinal nerves.

A

O: Muscular slips from the outer surfaces of ribs 5 to 12.
I: Lateral lip of iliac crest; aponeurosis ending in midline raphe (linea alba).

Anterior rami of T7 - T12 spinal nerves.

Compress abdominal contents; both muscles flex trunk; each muscle bends trunk to same side, turning anterior part of abdomen to opposite side.

Internal Oblique

A

O: Thoracolumbar fascia; iliac crest between origins of external and transversus; lateral 2/3 of inguinal ligament.
I: Inferior border of the lower three or four ribs; aponeurosis ending in linea alba; pubic crest and pectineal line.

Anterior rami of T7-T12 spinal nerves.

Compress abdominal contents; both muscles flex trunk; each muscle bends trunk and turns anterior part of abdomen to same side.

O: Thoracolumbar fascia; medial lip of iliac crest; lateral one-third of iniguinal ligament; costal cortilages of ribs 7 to 12.
I: Aponeurosis ending in linea alba; pubic crest and pectineal line.

Anterior rami of lower spinal nerves T7 to T12 and L1.

Compress abdominal contents.
