3.10.W - Quiz: Collision of the Plates Lab Review Flashcards

1
Q

Application
Young-Earth Creationists believe that the movement of the tectonic plates during Noah’s Flood contributed to the massive catastrophes and rapidly changing landscape that occurred throughout the flood and in the time following. Psalm 104:8, in speaking about the time of the flood, says, “The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them.” Genesis 7:11 records that, at the beginning of the flood, “…all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened.” The geologic activity described in these verses certainly coincides with rapidly moving tectonic plates!

Look around where you live and describe how the flood might have affected the landscape that you see around you. Do you see mountains, and can you name the plates that made them, or do you see valleys that were eroded by floodwaters. Write 3 to 4 sentences explaining what you see and how the flood could have shaped it.

A

Your Answer:
I live in Near the Appalachian mountains in North Carolina. The collision of the North American plate and the African plate led to the formation of these mountains. Different types of rocks are found throughout the state caused by the movement of the earth’s crust because of the tectonic process. However, the state is not currently located on any plate boundaries.
