A pioneer species is a species that is the first species to be alive in an ecosystem.

What is the difference between primary and secondary succession?

A

Primary succession is when the ecosystem is developing first, such as when it develops on a glacier. Secondary succession is when the ecosystem develops after it has already developed, but it had a major event that badly damaged the ecosystem.
