  • david Carrick and sarah Everard cased show police can abuse powers, Carrick abused women using police power and was not investigated when it was first discovered, Everard was raped and murdered by police officer after he pretended to arrest her using his powers of policing

CPS evaluation

A

+ in a typical 3 month period the cps prosecuted around 80,000 cases in crown court and 450,000 cases in magistrates court, around 80% of defendants prosecuted are convicted

+ independent from police to remove bias and promotes impartiality

  • damilola taylor case - evidence was only testimonial, shouldn’t have passed full code test without enough evidence
  • liam Allen- undisclosed evidence was not used which proved innocence, dismissed when it was raised
  • lack of funding and resources
  • caroline flack - without merit and not in public interest
  • increased work load decreased staff
  • dropping cases deemed as weak
