Q

Action

A

Inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the proximal tubule and loop of Henle which draws water with it and causes diuresis. This diuresis effect occurs about 10 minutes after IV dose.
Direct venodilating effects which decreases venous return to the heart (decreases preload.) This effect is seen before the diuresis effect.
