Upper Limb (Arm and Cubital fossa) Flashcards
What are the Flexor muscles of the forearm?
brachialis, palmaris longus, flexor carpi ulnaris, pronator teres, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum profundus, flexor pollicis longus, pronator quadratus , flexor carpi radialis.
What are the posterior extensors of the forearm?
triceps brachii, anconeus, radial nerve.
Identify the Biceps Brachii and the subscapular muscles
Identify the brachialis muscle.
Identify the Triceps brachii
What types of nerve damage can be associated humeral fracture?
Proximal fracture: (head and neck of humerus), damage to the Axillary nerve which results in loss in abduction of arm above 15%.
Medial fracture: damage to the radial nerve which results in the wrist dropping.
Distal fracture: damage to the ulnar nerve which if hurt on medial epicondyle results in claw hand and if hurt on median nerve, epiphyseal line results on loss of flexion of wrist and digits.
Name the pairing of nerves and arteries in the arm.
axillary nerve runs with Posterior Humeral Circumflex
radial nerve runs with deep brachial artery
ulnar nerve runs with the superior ulnar collateral artery
median nerve and brachial artery
Does the Ulnar nerve have any branches in the arm?
No it does not have any branches in the arm! Its only exception is an articular branch.
Where does the ulnar nerve run in reference to its anterior component?
It starts running medially to the brachial artery and halfway down it turns posterioly, running along with the superior ulnar collateral artery. Afterwards it pierces the medial fascia compartment and accesses the forearm from behind the medial epicondyle (funny bone), where it becomes superficial.
Where does the median nerve run in the arm, starting with with the anterior component?
It initiates running laterally to the brachial artery but halfway down the arm it crosses medial to the brachial artery & under the bicipital apponeurosis (in the cubital fossa)
Does the median nerve have any branches in the arm?
No it does not have any branches, except for the vasomotor branch to the brachial artery.
Identify the vein that run on the arm
Axillary vein, basilic vein penetrates deep fascia, cephalic vein, basilic vein (subcutaneous superficial vein)
Identify the vein that run on the arm
Axillary vein, basilic vein penetrates deep fascia, cephalic vein, basilic vein (subcutaneous superficial vein)
What is the cubital fossa?
it is the depression on the arm or a depression on anterior aspect of elbow.
its the area of transition between the arm and forearm
It lies between the brachioradialis and pronator teres muscle
