4 main aetiologies of claw disease

A
  1. trauma
  2. neoplasia
  3. paronychia (inflammation of nail fold, can be due to bacteria/funghi with immunosuppression or autoimmune esp. pemphigus folaceous in cats)
  4. symetrical lupoid (to do with keratinocytes) onychodystrophy or lupoid onychitis (not uncommon, dogs, sloughed claws + regrowth of brittle, cracked, short claws, multiple feet, no other skin dsiease. Histo: interface dermatits at junction of clawbed and underlying dermis)
