Bernoulli's Principle Flashcards

Q

What is Bernoulli’s principle?

A

About 250 years ago mathematic named Daniel Bernoulli explained how fluid like air and water moves. When a speed of a fluid such as air or water is low ( moving slowly ), the pressure is exerts is higher. When the speed of a fluid is high ( moving fast ), The pressure it Exerts is lower. The faster the air moves across a surface, the lower the air pressure. High-pressure air always wants to move towards an area of lower pressure air.

This principle can be applied to flight. Since air moves over the curved top side of an airplane swing faster than it moves along the flat underside of the wing, there is less pressure above the wing then below it. The higher pressure air under the wing moves towards the lower pressure air above the wing. Since the wing is in the way, lift is created. This is what keeps an airplane in the air.
