• help ind to examine violent patterns in the relationship (only when safety is not imminent)
• explore beliefs and values regarding relationships (is abuse/harm deemed ok?)
• examine/address self esteem issues (depression, guilt, powerlessness, sense of self)
• explore alternative living arrangements (friends/relatives)
• make suggestions for ongoing counselling as ind learns to live with partner
