Arterial BP

A

Slowly deflate cuff 2 to 3 mmHg per second
Phase 1: appearance of clear tapping sounds,SBP
Phase 2: sounds are softer and longer
Phase 3: sounds are crisper and louder
Phase 4: sounds disappear, DBP
Normal: 120/80
HTN: 140/90

Heart sounds

A

S1(lub): closure of mitral and tricuspid valve, onset ventricular systole. High-frequency, low pitch, longer duration
S2(dub): closure of aortic and pulmonic valves, onset of ventricular diastole. High frequency, high-pitched, short duration
S3:vibrations of distended ventricle. Normal and children. Abnormal in adults associated with CHF, ventricular gallop.
S4: pathological vibration of ventricular wall. Associated with hypertension stenosis MI. Atrial gallop.
