- Keep track of purchased goods to make sure they are sold within date.
- Monitors sale and stock levels of each product, helps management plan future purchases.
- Maintains min stock level so users knows how quickly stock is used and when to re-order.

A model which the end user creates in their mind of how the system should work.

- Processor carries out more than one process at one time.
- More than one CPU.
- OS gives specified time to each application.

Describe how colour should be considered when designing a Human Computer Interface (HCI).
A
- Colours shouldn’t clash so text is easy to read.
- Colours must match user expectations. Error message = red, user has done something wrong.
- Use of contrasting colours for partially sighted and colour blind colour combinations used.

Justify the use of WIMP (3 points)
A
- Does not have to remember lots of code to operate it.
- Less training required for end user- use it straight away.
- Similar to previously used systems so higher confidence and less resistance to change.

Explain the importance of matching the online ordering interface to the user’s mental model. (6 Marks)
A
- Less training time is required because it will be what they expect.
- Increased productivity as less training is required.
- Less resistance to using the new site as it operates the way they think it should.

Describe two ways the model [MHP or Mental Model] can be applied to the redesign of the user interface. [6]
A
- A flashing cursor will indicate where the user is to enter data.
- A beep may sound when a mistake is made.
- Many colours have meaning to people and so account needs to be taken of this.
