3C.3 Poloarisation Flashcards

1
Q

what is polarisation

A

the orientation of the plane of oscillations of a transverse wave, if the wave is (plane) polarised, all its oscillations would occur in a single plane

Q

what are polarising filter

A

it is a piece of plastic soaked with chemicals with a long chain of molecules called a polaroid sheet, that polaroid shield would only allow light waves to pass if their electric field oscillations in one direction

3
Q

how can light be stopped transmitting using a polarizing filter

A

by using crossed polaroids which are two polarising filters one placed vertically and the other horizontally the first filter would only allow vertical oscillations and the second would block out the horizontal occisilations
