A

we set up two Variable resistors in order to have a certain Pd given across two of them, a Pd that we need, then we would attach a component parallel to the resistor so it can experience the same resistance

what is the potentiometer

A

it is a version of a potentail divider where a resistater wire is used in two parts gving us two resistors. there is a sliding connection (wiper) can can be adjusted in order to alter the two resistances, therfore changing the output Pd from the potentiometer
