Ways to promote Rational Thinking

A
  • challenge irrational/self-defeating beliefs
  • Challenge them to validate these ideas
  • Challenge the illogical nature of the person’s thinking and help minimize these beliefs
  • Educate on how self-defeating beliefs will lead to future emotional and behavioral disturbances
  • Use absurdity and humor to confront client’s thinking
  • Replace with more rationally grounded ideas
