What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water (+light energy)–> glucose + oxygen
How are chloroplasts adapted for photosynthesis?
They contain a green pigment called chlorophyll which absorbs light needed for photsynthesis
What happens to the rate of photosynthesis when light intensity increases?
It also increases
Explain a temperature enzyme graph
The rate of photosynthesis increases as the temperature increases as enzymes work better at higher temperatures. The rate of photosynthesis reaches it’s optimum when the enzymes work the best. The rate of photosynthesis decreases because the enzymes denature when the temperature is too hot.
Why do farmers and gardeners use paraffin heaters?
Paraffin heaters increase the temperature and it produces carbon dioxide as a by-product when burning
Why do farmers and gardeners use greenhouses?
They trap the sun’s light but make sure that the temperature doesn’t become limiting.
How do plants use glucose?
For respiration, making cell walls, making proteins, stored in seeds and stored as starch
How do plants use glucose for respiration?
Some glucose is used for respiration, which releases energy enabling them to convert the rest of the glucose into various other useful substances. For example, these substances can be used to build new cells and proteins promote growth and repair.
Why is starch better for storing than glucose?
Starch is insoluble, which means that they don’t move away from storage areas in the plant.
What is photosynthesis?
A chemical reaction where plants take in carbon dioxide and water and transfer into glucose and oxygen
Where does photosynthesis happen?
Plants–> leaves–>cells–> chloroplasts–> chlorophyll
Explain the starch test.
1) One leaf is placed in light and one in dark
2) The leaves are boiled to burst the cells
3) Put leaf in ethanol which removes the pigment
4) Add iodine - black means starch is present and brown means no starch is present
