4.4.1 Reactivity of metals Flashcards
4.4 Chemical changes (10 cards)
How can a metal be called an ore?
If that metal can be extracted for profit from the compounds in a rock
What must be done to extract metals?
Since most ores contain Metal oxides, the oxygen must be removed.
What are these types of reactions (that remove oxygen)?
Reduction reactions
What is group number?
The number of electrons on the outer shell.
List the reaction pattern for a metal and acid
Metal + Acid > Salt + Hydrogen
List the reaction pattern for a base and acid
Base/Metal Oxide + Acid > Water + Salt
List the reaction pattern for an alkali and an acid.
Alkali + Acid > Water + Salt
List the reaction pattern for a Carbonate and an acid.
Carbonate + Acid > Water + Carbon Dioxide + Salt
List the reaction pattern for Ammonia and an Acid.
Ammonia + Acid > Ammonium Salt
Complete the following displacement reactions:
zinc oxide + calcium:
magnesium + iron (III) oxide
zinc oxide + calcium > calcium oxide + zinc
magnesium + iron (III) oxide > magnesium oxide + iron
