Intro
‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding is a novel which examines themes such as the contrast between order and chaos, and civilisation and savagery. In the novel, a plane full of schoolboys crashes onto a deserted island, and the boys must try to work together to survive; however several of the boys care more about hunting and ‘fun’ than rescue.
Para 2- Jack’s group are still hunting and disrupting the order of the island
“Behind them on the grass the headless and paunched body of a sow lay where they had dropped it.”
Para 3 (must have) - Ralph speaks to the boys about them not seriously trying to get rescued
“Look at that! Call that a signal fire? That’s a cooking fire. Now you’ll eat and there’ll be no smoke.”
Para 4 (the climax) - Piggy desperately tries to convince the boys to keep order and civilisation
“Which is better - to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?”
Para 4 2nd quotation
“Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?”
Para 5 1st quote - piggy is brutally murdered by Roger who does not care for order and civilisation
“the rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.”
Para 5 2nd quotation
“Piggy’s arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pig’s after it has been killed.”
