Sound and Light Nick Scott Flashcards
What is a pitch?
Frequency of sound waves.
What is a sound wave?
They are a longitudinal wave. They vibrate the air molecules.
What is an infrasound?
A frequency higher than the human ear can hear.
What is ultrasound?
The human hearing range.
What is resonance?
Vibrates the entire instrument when at loudest sound.
What is a decibel?
The measurement of loudness.
What is fundamental frequency?
A standing wave of a string, but is twice the size of the string.
What is harmonics?
Whole numbers multiples of fundamental frequency.
What is sonar?
Sonar is a sound wave that goes until it hits something than comes back to the object that sent the sonar out.
What is basilar membrane?
Basilar Membrane is a long flexible membrane.
What is a photon?
A photon is bright red light that can’t knock electrons off of something.
What is intensity?
Intensity is the amount of light illuminating off something.
What is a radar?
Radar is a system that uses reflected radio waves to find the speed and location of something.
What is the Electromagnetic spectrum?
The Electromagnetic spectrum is all the frequencies of electromagnetic radiation.
What is a light Ray?
A light Ray is an imaginary line that Ravens in the direction of light.
