Hypothalamus
-brain at top of pituitary
ADH: allows body to reabsorb water in CD
Anterior Pituitary
-front on the pituitary gland Growth Hormone: promotes growth Prolactin: stiumlates milk production Luteinizing Hormone: Females-stimulates production of corpus luteum & ovulation Males- stimulates production of testosterone Follicle Stimulating Hormone: Females-stimulate folicle growth Males-stimulate production of sperm
Thyroid
-base of neck
Calcitonin: lowers calcium levels in blood
Triiodothyronine & Thyroxin: regulates rate at which glucose oxidized
Parathyroid
-4 pea-sized glands in thyroid
Parathyroid Hormone: increase calcium levels in blood & lower phosphate levels
Pancreas
-behind stomach
Insulin: decrease blood sugar
Glucagon: increase blood sugar
Thymus Gland
-underneath breast bone
Humoral Factors: develop lymphold system (immune system)
Adrenal Medulla
-core of adrenal gland (on top of kidneys)
Eprinephrine & Norepinephrine: stimulate heart rate, raise blood sugars, initiate fight or flight response
Adrenal Cortex
-outer region of adrenal gland
Glucocorticoids: help body meet demands of stress
Mineralocorticoids: regulate salt-water balance
Testes
-exterior of male
Testosterone: helps development and maintains sexual traits, regulates sperm production
Ovaries
-inside female
Estrogen & Progesterone: developing and maintaining female traits, pregnacy
