What is the direct translation of euthanasia?
‘a good or gentle death’
What is the intention of euthanasia?
To end the life of someone who is in pain or has a poor quality of life due to a serious illness
What is voluntary euthanasia?
When a person asks a Doctor to end their life because they don’t wanna live any more. It is their own choice.
What is Non-voluntary euthanasia?
When a person is too ill to request to be died, for example if they are in a coma. A doctor does it anyway because it is in the best interests of the person.
What is involuntary euthanasia?
When someone can but does not give consent to be euthanasia’d. This could be because they don’t want to are aren’t asked.
What is active euthanasia?
When steps are taken to end someone’s life. For example giving them a lethal injection.
What is passive euthanasia?
When treatment is not provided any longer or doctors do something to quicken the natural process of death.
All euthanasia is what in the UK?
Illegal. It is treated as manslaughter or murder.
