4B Operant conditioning Flashcards
(11 cards)
Operant conditioning
A three phase learning process that involves an antecedent, behavior, and consequence, whereby the consequence of a behavior determines the likelihood that it will reoccur
Antecedent
the stimulus or event that precedes and often elicits a particular behavior
Behaviour (operant conditioning)
the voluntary actions that occur in the presence of the antecedent
Consequence
the outcome of the behaviour, which determines the likelihood that it will reoccur
Punishment
A consequence that decreases the likelihood of a behaviour reoccurring
Differences between classical and Operant conditioning
-Classical conditioning is an automatic response whereas operant is voluntary
-Operant conditioning involves behaviour where one can influence their environment
Reinforcement (operant conditioning)
A consequence that increases the likelihood of a behaviour reoccurring
Positive reinforcement
The addition of a desirable stimulus
Positive punishment
The addition of an undesirable stimulus
Negative Reinforcement
The removal of a desirable stimulus
Negative Punishment
The removal of an undesirable stimulus
