Learning that involves watching the behaviour of a model and the associated consequence of that behaviour
Model (observational learning)
The individual performing the behaviour that is being observed
Socio-Cognitive approaches to learning
Theories that propose learning takes place in a social setting and involves various cognitive processes
Stages of Observational Learning ARRMR
Attention - actively watching
Retention - Storing a mental representation/ more meaningful the more accurate
Reproduction - Being mentally and physically able to peform the behaviour
Motivation - desire to imitate behaviour
Reinforcement - Experiences a positive outcome of the behaviour
Intrinsic motivation
internal desire
Extrinsic motivation
Receiving praise or pisitive reinforcement
External reinforcement
Learning by consequences
Vicarious reinforcement
Observer sees the model being reinforced
Self reinforcement
reinforced by factors internal to the individual
