recovery from war post 1945
A
- war destroyed most economic progress made by the first 3 plans
- 1945 - 45 million people were homeless
- industry producing 2/3 less than 1940 levels

A
- 88% of investment went into heavy industry
- industrial output increaed by 80% from 1945-50
- some metal prodcuing regions in ukraine and siberia were able to achieve or exceed pre war production by 1950

- emergence of cold war in 1946 led to the expansion of soviet military
- by 1952 total military expenditure was nearly 1/4 of gov spending
- less money available for other economic sectors

- only 12% of investment went nito food production + consumer goods

A
- focused on factories over homes
- historical cities given priority over rural towns
- kiew was rebulit rapidly but townds in dnieper were neglected until the 1950s

- wages were kept low to save money for recontruction
- women forced to go to work
- stlain recognised women played a vital role in rebuilding soviet industry

- like the other plans it was plauged with problems and ineffciencies
- but between 1945-50 the soviet economy was the fastest gorwing in the world
- by Stalins death in 1953 economic recovery was well underway

A
- agriculture suffered server worker and reasource shortages from 196-49
- post ww2 stlain ordered and end to private faarming and enforced disclpine over farms (production dropped)
- 1947-53 production grew. by 1952 production had recahed pre war levels
