Why were the 1936 olympics important ?

A

They were there so the Nazis could showcase to 49 nations that they were strong and that Germany was a modern and well organised society.

How were the Olympics controlled?

A

The stadium was made to fit the largest audience.
Signs with ‘Jews not wanted,’ were removed to portray the Germans positively.
Germans won more medals than other nations, (33 gold).
All camera crews had to be removed and every report was controlled and every detail stage-managed.

How was Hitler’s attempt to showcase Aryan superiority sabotaged?

A

Jesse Owens and the US athletes won lots of medals between them. Jesse Owens won the 100+200m, the 100*4 relay, and the long jump. The other athlete won 7 golds between them which Hitler refused to give out medals for.

Why was sport important in Germany ?

A

It was important for a strong and fit nation. Boys needed to be healthy so they could fight in the army, and girls needed to be good to produce as many children as possible.
Success in sport was important for the Nazi regime.
