Lecture 7 Flashcards

Q
Glycogen
A
-storage form of glucose
-in muscle and liver
-up to 10% of liver by weight
-1 to 2% of muscle by weight
-Stored as large granules in hepatocyte cytoplasm
-Each particle of glycogen contains up to ~55,000 glucose residues and ~2,000 nonreducing ends.
-Depleted from liver by 18-24 h of fasting
Depleted from muscle in
2
Q
Glycogenolysis
A
Glucose broken down from glycogen.
-Glucose residues cleaved off at nonreducing end by glycogen phosphorylase.
