A

H8’s advisers were H7’s old ones, e.g. Wareham + Fox, who wanted peace. Tricked H8 into renewing peace treaty with France in 1510.

1511: Joins Holy League

A

Anti-French alliance. 1512: Attacks Guyenne with F1. But, F1 backstabs H8, captures Navarre + retreats. English return diseased + mutinous.

2nd Campaign in 1st French War

A

Wolsey’s capability shines through. 25k men led by H8 himself. Captures Tournai (ungracious doghole) + Therouanne (burned down by C5 in 1553 as revenge for failed Siege of Metz against France). Battle of Spurs against 7k French horsemen, 3k French casualties.

A
