- Adults 20 breaths per minute
- Children 30 breaths per minute
- Infants 50 breaths per minute

A

What is the difference between variable and fixed flow rate systems
A
- Variable allows adjustment of flow rate, fixed does not and is usually set to 15 liters per minute
- Variable must be assembled, fixed are all pre-connected ready to go

- Flow Rate: 1-6 Liters per minute
- Oxygen concenration: 24-44%
- Uses: Victims with breathing difficulty or who are unable to tolerate other masks

- Tank needs more than 200 PSI
- Should lay tank on side during use
- Make sure oxygen is flowing prior to administering

What is the “blow by” technique when administering oxygen
A
- Best for young children and infants especially if frightened by mask
- Should hold the mask 2 inches from face, wave slowly from side to side, instruct patient to breath normally
