  • head = has the uncinate process, rests post. on the IVC, the common bile duct is on the post. sup. surface
  • neck =behind it the sup. messenteric vein joins the splenic veins to form the portal vein
  • body = psses over the 12th vertebra, post. to omental bursa, post, it is in contact with the aorta, sup. mesenteric a., left suprarenal gland, left kidney and renal vessels
  • tail = mobile and is inside the splenorenal ligament, lies ant. to the left kidney
