Q

What are advantages and disadvantages of foam board?

A

The board is rigid and images can easily be attached with spray adhesive. It can be cut with complex shapes and can be drawn on. A disadvantage is that the board can easily tear if hand-cut and isn’t easily recycled.

16
Q

What is the safety of styrofoam?

A

When cutting use in a well-ventilated room and use a mask to protect from dust. This is not biodegradeable.

17
Q

How many microns does card have? What is it used for?

A

230 - 750 microns.

This is used for cards, packaging, and nets.

18
Q

What advantages and disadvantages are there for card?

A

+ It is easy to cut and be printed on.

- Easily bent

19
Q

What equipment is used with card?

A

A safety rule, CAMM cutting, a laser cutter, or a craft knife.

20
Q

What safety is there? Is card biodegradeable?

A

Use a safety rule. It IS biodegradable.

21
Q

What are acrylic sheets, rods, and tubes used for?

A

Point-of-sale stands and architectural models.

22
Q

What equipment is used with acrylic?

A

Wet or dry abrasive paper, a hacksaw or laser cutter, and polish.

23
Q

What advantages and disadvantages are there for acrylic?

A

+ Easy to make to a variety of finishes, rigid, lots of colours.
- Expensive

24
Q

What safety points are there for acrylic? Is it biodegradeable?

A

Wear goggles when cutting. Not biodegradeable :(

25
Q

How many microns is board? What is it used for in modelling? What equipment is used?

A

750-3000 microns.
Used for POS stands, the backs of hardback covers, and architectural models.
A safety rule, laser or die cutter, and a scalpel.

26
Q

What are advantages and disadvantages of board?

A

+ It is rigid, can be drawn on.

- More expensive.

27
Q

What safety points are there for board? Is it biodegradable?

A

Use a safety ruler and be careful when cutting - it is biodegradable!

28
Q

What is plastazote used for? What equipment is used with it?

A

Used for card covers and medical supports such as splints.

It’s used with a die cutter or laser cutter, a craft knife, safety rule, and scissors.

29
Q

What are advantages? Disadvantages?

A

Plastazote is made from flexible and colourful foam sheets and can be vacuum formed to give moulds raised surfaces. It is difficult to cut but it easier to cut than foam board.

30
Q

What safety points are there? Is it biodegradable?

A

Use a safety rule - not biodegradable.
