movement of population from urban areas to rural area

causes:

  • discontent with city life: pollution, house prices, personal security
  • people use cars more so they can access their workplaces

What are the impacts of counter-urbanisation

A

positive:

  • old derelict buildings are transformed into habitable housing, improves the look of the area
  • more people using shops and schools so they are less likely to close

negative:

  • congestion and pollution due to people that still work in urban area
  • increase housing demand, which increases prices, make it hard for locals to buy houses
  • new houses may be built which may damage the area
