List some of the differences between an animal cell and a plant cells organelles
Cell wall (plant)
Chloroplast (plant)
Large centre vacuoles (plant)
State the function of the Nucleus and the Nucleolus
Nucleus: contains DNA (which is inherited) controls the activities of the cell
Nucleolus: rewrites ribosomal RNA and combines it with proteins
State the function of the surface membrane
To protect the cell from its surroundings and controls the movement of substances in and out of cells
State the function of the mitochondria
To produce energy currency of the cell (ATP) and regulates cellular metabolism
Describe the function of the chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll, works to convert light energy into sugar in the process called photosynthesis
Describe the method of nutrition for an animal cell
Glycogen is the stored food in animals but animals must eat other food sources as they are unable to create their own food source. By doing this they gain chemical energy
Describe the nutrition process of a plant cell
Starch is stored in plants as food. They are able to make their own energy by a process called photosynthesis
List the organs in plants
Leaf, stem, root and reproductive structure
List the organs in animals
Respiratory, circulatory, digestive (system) lungs, heart, liver, stomach
