Things that nurses cannot delegate

A
  1. The nursing process - any component, including writing care plans.
  2. Anything that requires nursing judgment, including evaluating the successfulness of an intervention and triage.
  3. Teaching/counseling - this includes discharge teaching.
  4. To LPNs: The initial assessment of a new patient; chemotherapy, IV pushes, and hanging blood products.
  5. To UAPs: Interpreting test results; identifying needs.
