6
Q

What is systematic sampling?

A

The population size is divided by the sample size to dictate which participants are selected for the sample e.g. every Nth name from the sampling frame

7
Q

What is stratified sampling?

A

Ensure that the key characteristics of the population are represented in the same proportion in the sample. Number they want\ number they have x people in each group

10
Q

Advantages of random sampling

A
  • The researcher has no control over who is being selected

- investigator bias is avoided

Q

What are the advantages of systematic sampling

12
Q

What are the advantages of stratified sampling

A

Could guarantees that all key characteristics are present in the sample

The sample can be generalised

15
Q

What are the disadvantages of random sampling

A

It will limit generalizability

Might not get the same proportion of people in the group

16
Q

Are the disadvantages of systematic sampling

A

Sample may not be representative therefore limiting generalizability

17
Q

What are the disadvantages of stratified sampling

A

If all the key features of the population are not identified in the sample may not be representative

18
Q

What are the disadvantages of opportunity sampling

A

It might limit generalizability and the researcher may be bias

19
Q

What are the disadvantages of volunteer sampling

A

The sample may be biased as only certain types of people are motivated to volunteer for research therefore limiting generalizability
