Sylvatic- A-. Furcifer, A. Africanus
Urban- A. Aegyptii, A. Albopictus
What is the hallmark of Chikungunya Fever?
A stooped walking position
What is the classic Chikungunya triad?
Fever, rash and arthralgias
What is the incubation period of C. Fever?
2 to 12 days
What is a clinical scenario for C. Fever?
Abrupt fever to 104 degrees +/- chills lasting 2 days with severe migratory symmetric arthritis .starting peripherally then moving centrally
What is the appearance of the rash?
Maculopapular rash of trunk and limbs
Nasal redness and central facial black brown pigment
Does breast milk transmit this infection?
It does not.
What is the treatment?
ABC supportive care
How do you distinguish Chikungunya from Dengue?
Dengue is associated with more bleeding and blood abnormalities, arthralgia and not arthritis
