Q

How does the head of a rib articulate with the vertabrae?

What does the tubercle of the rib attach to?

A

The head attaches to the inferior articular facet of the number that goes above the rib and the superior facet of the number that corresponds with it - so Rib 7 attaches to the inferior facet of T6 and the superior facet of T7

The tubercle of the rib attaches to the transverse process of the same numbered vertebrae - rib 7 to T7

Q

What ribs are the floating ribs?

A

11-12

17
Q

View the diagram of a rib and learn the anatomy. Describe it now.

A

Starting from the head - Superior and Inferior facets - body of angle - costal groove - then site of articulation with costal cartilage

18
Q

How is the 1st rib different?

A

Only articulates T1
Different shape
Has two grooves for the subclavian artery and vein
Has a tubercle for the scalene muscle

19
Q

Anterior or posterior to the 1st rib - Sub Clavian Vein and SC artery

A

SC artery is posterior

SC vein is anterior

20
Q

What shape is the thoracic vertebrae?

A

Body - heart shaped

Spinous process is slanted

21
Q

What part of the vertabrae does the rib attach to?

A

Superior articular facet for the rib above

Inferior articular facet for the rib below

22
Q

What passes through the vertebral foreman?

A

The hole
Spinal cord
Meninges - dura - arachnoid - pia

23
Q

What lies in the inferior vertebral notch?

A

Spinal nerves

24
Q

Where is the lamina and pedicle?

A

Lamina is on the transverse process

In between body and facet joints

25
Q

What composes the vertebral arch?

A

Lamina
Pedicles
Foramen in middle
