5A - Classical Conditioning Flashcards
(10 cards)
Stimulus
anything that precedes an action
Response
the reaction to the stimulus
Neutral Stimulus (NS)
Any stimulus that does not cause any relevant response before conditioning
Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS)
is any stimulus BEFORE conditioning, which produces a naturally occurring response (automatic/reflexive)
Unconditioned Response (UCR)
a naturally (reflexic/automatic) response BEFORE conditioning
Conditioned Stimulus (CS)
any stimulus which causes a learned response AFTER association
Conditioned Response (CR)
A learned response to a CS AFTER association
Before Conditioning
NS → No relevant response
UCS → UCR
During Conditioning
NS
+ → UCR
UCS
- Two stimuli are associated or paired
- NS presented first, immediately followed by the UCS (0.5 s)
- This step is repeated multiple times
- This is known as acquisition
After Conditioning
CS → CR
The NS becomes the CS, through the repeated association of the previous stage (during conditioning)
