How do we define honor?
Treating someone with dignity and esteem in attitude and action. To view someone as worthy, to recognize their authority
Who should receive honor?
Every authority figure
What are ways honor is distinct from respect?
Honor is automatic. Respect is earned. Honor is based on position and respect is based on character
The 5th commandment is the first with a promise? What is this promise and what does it mean?
“So the days may be long in the land The Lord you God is giving to you”
Honor your leaders. Dishonoring people can lead to being dishonored
Why do parents deserve honor?
- the give their children potential and resources they can’t live without
- they give their children life and love and care and teaching
- they are God’s human representatives for us
What happens when authority goes toxic?
Honor is mandatory but it might look different in regards to respect
What does Jesus do with the 6th commandment in Matthew 5?
He expands it to include sins of rage and anger
4 types of killing
- Murder: intentional killing of innocent life with premeditation
- Voluntary manslaughter: killing of another with rash without premeditation
- Involuntary manslaughter: irresponsibly killing another without intention and premeditation
